How to launch a meme coin.

Nine steps, in order, with the real costs and the parts everyone skips. Written by someone who has built the branding for 69 of these.

How do you launch a meme coin?

To launch a meme coin: pick a concept and check the name is not taken, choose a chain, create the token on a launchpad such as pump.fun on Solana or a standalone pool on Raydium, Uniswap or PancakeSwap, set up a Telegram group with a buy bot and moderation, build a website covering what the token is and how to buy it, create the visual assets including logo, stickers and memes, seed liquidity if you are not using a bonding curve, claim your DEX Screener and DEXTools token pages, and then work on distribution. The technical creation step takes minutes and, on a bonding curve launchpad, costs close to nothing. The branding and community steps decide the outcome and take the actual effort. A realistic all-in floor for a credible launch in 2026 is around $1,000 to $2,000 excluding liquidity, and on a standalone launch the liquidity you seed is the largest number in the exercise. Chart listings are free and automatic.

1. The concept

The good ones are a single idea you can explain in four words and draw in one image. If you need a paragraph to explain the joke, it will not travel. Check the name is not already taken on DEX Screener and that the handle is free on X and Telegram before you get attached.

2. The chain

This decides your audience, your fees and your tooling. There is a page for each of the main ones:

3. Create the token

On a launchpad this is a form: name, ticker, image, description. It takes about two minutes and as of June 2026 pump.fun charges the deployer nothing to do it. Deploying your own contract instead is a real engineering task, and if you are handling other people's money it needs an audit. Most meme coins do not need a custom contract and are worse off for having one.

4. Telegram, before you launch and not after

The group should exist and be configured before the first buyer arrives, because the first thing anyone does is click through to it. That means a buy bot wired to your pair, anti-spam moderation that survives the bot flood every new token gets, a pinned message with the contract and how to buy, and permissions set so raiders cannot post links. Full setup is $397 if you would rather not learn BotFather at midnight.

5. The website

Your site answers three questions: what is this, how do I buy it, and is anyone home. The third is the one people are actually asking. There is a full guide to building it yourself, a free template if you want to skip to the end, and 69 real examples to look at first. A custom one from here is $497 and goes live in 24 hours.

6. The visual assets

Logo first, because everything else derives from it, and it has to read at 32 pixels because that is the size it lives at. Then Telegram stickers, which are the highest-leverage asset a meme token has: every time a holder sends one in another group, that is your branding in front of a new audience for free. Then banners at the correct sizes, then a stack of memes ready to go on day one rather than made in a panic.

7. Liquidity

On a bonding curve this is handled for you and deploys automatically at graduation, around $69,000 market cap on pump.fun. If you are running your own pool you provide the liquidity yourself, and thin liquidity produces terrible slippage and a chart that looks broken. Locking or burning LP is the standard signal that you are not going to pull it, and holders will ask about it within minutes.

8. Claim your chart pages

DEX Screener indexes every token automatically once there is a pool and one trade, at no cost. What you can pay for is Enhanced Token Info, at $299 when checked on 18 August 2026, which puts your logo, description and links on the token page. Anyone charging you a fee simply to be listed is selling something that is free. Same story on DEXTools. Full cost breakdown here.

9. Distribution, which is the whole game

Everything above is table stakes and takes a day or two. Getting people to see it is the actual work and it never stops. This is also where budgets vanish fastest, so be more sceptical of anyone selling you reach than of anyone selling you design.

The honest part

Most meme coins go to zero. That is the base rate of the category, not a pessimistic take, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. Doing all of the above well does not make a token succeed. What it does is remove the reasons someone who already found you would bounce, which is the only part of this that is actually within your control.

Questions people actually ask

How long does it take to launch a meme coin?

The token itself takes minutes on a launchpad. Everything around it, meaning the site, branding and community, is what takes real time. Done properly and in parallel it is a day or two, which is why the branding here is built in 24 hours.

Do I need to be a developer?

Not on a launchpad like pump.fun. You need a wallet, some SOL for gas, and a name. Writing and deploying your own contract is a different job and needs an audit if any real money is going to touch it.

What actually decides whether a meme coin works?

Mostly distribution and timing, not the product. Nobody can honestly promise you an outcome. What is controllable is whether the project looks credible enough that people who find it stay, and that is a design and community problem.

Is launching a meme coin legal?

This is not legal advice and you should get some if there is real money involved. Rules vary a great deal by country, and promising returns or misrepresenting a token is where people get into genuine trouble regardless of jurisdiction.
